Q: What are saturated fats and are they bad for?
A: Saturated fats are deemed ‘very unhealthy fats’ and generally come from an animal source and include foods such as butter and lard. Generally these fats are solid at room temperature unless they are combined with another substance (i.e. milk). Saturated fats do have a benefit in the fact they enhance taste , texture, and stability of food. However it should be noted that the intake of saturated fat should be kept to a minimum. Excess saturated fat is closely linked through thorough research to increase in the incidence of Cardiovascular Disease (CVD).
