Q:To loose weight I have heard that it is best to consume 5-6 meals a day. Is this true?
A:Yes that is correct. You must develop a routine of eating more frequently throughout the day. Grazing was once considered bad for weight loss and therefore 3 meals a day was adopted. However, today 5-6 meals a day is endorsed, although the meals are generally smaller and more healthier than the conventional method of grazing. There are several reasons for adopting more frequent meals;
- Raises your metabolism, because your body needs to break down the food to be able to use it. A raise in basal metabolic rate means more calories are burnt throughout the day, the chance more fat loss will occur.
- Food is more efficiently absorb with smaller meal.
- You will have more energy, less hunger cravings.
- You will maintain lean muscle mass and keep your body anabolic as opposed to catabolic.
- Keep your body’s ‘food alarm clock’ regular. This prevent your body into thinking that it has to go into famine mode and begin to store and use fat sparingly.
